Update – 07.06.25
Leeds Oasis Crisis House will close from Monday 7 July for up to 10 weeks while essential improvement works are carried out. Leeds Oasis successfully secured capital investment to improve the service’s capacity – enabling it to support more people – and to make the building more accessible.
Planned improvements
- Bed capacity will increase from five to six rooms
- Additional space will be created for staff use
- A fully accessible bedroom will be added
- One-to-one support space will also be improved
Alongside these improvements, other essential maintenance works will be completed, including plumbing repairs, fixing leaks, and clearing drains and gutters.
Temporary closure and service continuity
The decision to temporarily close was jointly made by LSLCS, the ICB, and LYPFT. While several alternatives were explored to avoid closure, an alternative overnight facility could not be sourced. To reduce the impact on service users, a reduced service plan has been developed. Unfortunately, overnight provision currently offered by Oasis will be affected.
How the service will operate during the closure
- A Leeds OASIS day service will continue to run from Dial House in Halton, supported by LSLCS, from 10am to 3pm, seven days a week, offering one-to-one support
- After 3pm, service users will return to their home addresses. LYPFT staff will provide daily home visits between 3pm and 8pm
- Out of hours support will also be available from Dial House
Phone numbers and the standard referral process will remain unchanged throughout this period.
Who can access the service?
- Anyone with an existing crisis referral under CRISS or IHTT may be considered, with CRISS deciding if a referral to Leeds OASIS is appropriate
- People already supported by secondary mental health services (CMHT, Aspire, PDCN, or AOT) should contact CRISS to discuss a potential referral
- Individuals not already supported by secondary services can be referred to SPA for an urgent assessment, with Oasis offered as an option where appropriate
Leeds OASIS is a new option in the existing LYPFT crisis pathway, offering an alternative to hospital admission for those that do not necessarily need a bed on an acute ward and for whom a homely environment may be more beneficial. The service is a partnership between LSLCS, Touchstone and LYPFT, launched July 2021. The Leeds OASIS service provides a homely environment, similar to existing crisis services at Dial House and the Well Bean cafes, providing person-centred therapeutic support and employing trauma-informed practice.
What OASIS offers
Individuals will be able to access the service from three to seven days according to their needs. OASIS has the capacity of six private bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. Each bedroom has a safe for personal possessions of value and medication. There are a further four allocated day visitor sessions from 10am to 9pm – this is to accommodate visitors that may have commitments that prevent them from using our overnight facilities, such as childcare or pets.
Leeds OASIS provides an accessible, relaxed, homely and therapeutic feel within its walls. Guests and visitors can relax with the residents and CSW in our social areas – the lounge and conservatory. Our guests/visitors enjoy playing games, taking part in art and crafting activities and supportive chats.
OASIS have a well-equipped, social kitchen that is used to cook meals for the home as and when required. Individuals are responsible for making their own meals although CSW and guests routinely cook meals for the whole house to enjoy. Guests and visitors enjoy impromptu baking sessions throughout their stay
Within the large gardens we have a heated smoking shelter. We have a lovely garden with comfortable garden furniture positioned in the shade of our fruit trees. We have gardening sessions, where we are growing vegetables and flowers in our raised beds.
OASIS has a private, confidential space that is designed for therapeutic one-to-one session with CSW as well as designated ISS and CRISS workers, called the Nest.
Leeds OASIS is staffed 24/7 with Crisis Specialist Workers. They support the needs of the guests and visitors in a therapeutic way throughout their crisis, helping them to potentially manage future episodes of crisis. Throughout their stay, guests and visitors will have a mandatory daily check in and a one-to-one optional support with one of our CSWs. In addition to the support within OASIS, an allocated worker from one of the home-based treatment teams of LYPFT (IHTT/CRISS) will also have daily contact with the guest/visitor. This will ensure that our guests get additional support throughout their stay as well as facilitates joined-up care after the guest/visitor leaves OASIS.
